Frequently Asked Questions
The weather can be very unpredictable and changeable at sea. Check the forecast beforehand (or ask us!) and come prepared for the expected weather. You may wish to bring:
- Sun cream – the sun can be very intense at sea, make sure you use a high factor cream
- Sunglasses and sun hat
- A warm top – in can often be colder at sea than on land, please take account of this and make sure you have something warm to wear
- A rain jacket or poncho – the great British weather can never be entirely guaranteed!
- You may wish to bring your own water or snacks, although drinks and snacks are available to buy on board
All necessary fishing equipment is provided including fishing rods, reels and various baits and lures plus we make use of GPS navigational equipment, a radar and a colour fish finder. With regards to safety, we carry emergency life jackets, thermal blankets, flares, a first aid kit, a life raft and VHF radio plus children’s life jackets that can be used for peace of mind.
Yes, children are very welcome. We run trips of varying lengths and it is down to the parents to decide what style and length of trip would be suitable for their children. Please note that the boat will not return to port until the allotted finish time except in the case of bad weather or agreement of all passengers.
The boat is licensed for a maximum of 12 people, therefore no more than 12 passengers can be on board at any time. Should you have a larger group, we can arrange for the use of a second boat to accommodate you.
Anyone can book on their own, although it is not viable for us to run an adventure with less than 4 people so smaller parties will be grouped together. An adventure is not guaranteed to run until a minimum of 4 people have booked onto it.
To book, go onto our online bookings page and fill out our booking enquiry form, this will take you through the online booking and payment process. You will need to pay a 50% deposit to secure the booking and will need to have paid in full by 7 days before the date of the adventure. You can also book by phone or at one of our bookings offices – Contact us. We may not be able to provide the date that you would like, but we will endeavour to accommodate you.
Once we have received your booking request we will e-mail full payment details. We accept advance payment by either Paypal, credit or debit card online.
We run regular scheduled adventures from Easter until the end of October half term. Trips outside of these dates are by arrangement only, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Please inform us immediately should you need to cancel. We offer a full refund as long as you cancel before 7 days ahead of the date of your adventure. After this time we cannot refund your deposit but can credit you against a future adventure.
The meeting place for all Paddlefish Adventures is the “Newquay Harbour Adventure Centre”. This can be found at the top of the slip in the main quay (South Quay) in Newquay Harbour opposite the Lifeboat Station- directions. You must provide your own transport to this point.
“The Adventuress” is fully equipped with life jackets, a life raft, flares, thermal blankets, a first aid kit and a VHF radio. All crew are fully trained in sea survival, first aid and rescue and trips will only be run in safe conditions.
Paddlefish Adventure is covered to the sum of £3,000,000 for public liability. You may wish to take out your own insurance against personal loss, injury or having to cancel your adventure.
